Incident Command System
The Incident Command System (ICS) is a vital part of preparing for an incident. It is, essentially, an incident-specific organogram, stating the people in charge, command structure, and roles and responsibilities. This is vital information for an incident, so that everyone can concentrate on doing their task, and knows who to report to and get instructions from.
Setting up an ICS for your organisation is not as intimidating as it may seem. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has excellent resources to assist with this. The example ICS below will help to introduce you to this important part of emergency preparedness.
